The marble “Pieta” which Michelangelo was created from 1498 -1499 is a masterpiece of renaissance sculpture. It is located in the St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.  The statue was commissioned for the French Cardinal Jean De Billheres, who was a representative in Rome. The sculpture made of the best Carrara marble was made for the Cardinal’s funeral monument later moved in the 18th Century into the Basilica. These 2 artworks represent the final days of Jesus Christ.
